1. The Historic White-Pool House
Constructed in 1887 by the Whites, a Quaker family from Indiana, the White-Pool House was turned into apartment blocks in the 1920s by the Pool family, to accommodate the influx of workers drawn by the discovery of oil in Ector Country. As such, the house stands as a reminder of both the pioneer and oil boom eras in Texan history.
It is now a museum and has been restored as a nineteenth-century farmhouse with family heirlooms and original artefacts. The site also hosts events in the house, barn, and beautiful grounds, so if you have something big to celebrate, you might decide that this slice of the past is the perfect place for a party.
2. Odessa Meteor Crater
This impact site was one of the first to be identified as a meteor crater, in 1920. Open to visitors, there are routes through and around the crater so that you can view it from a variety of angles and learn from the signs that are posted along it. There’s also a museum with meteor exhibitions and displays of rocks and minerals, as well as a gift shop, where you can find out more about this fascinating phenomena.
3. Permian Basin Petroleum Museum
Enthusiasts of twentieth-century history will love the Midland recreation of a boom town in the early 1930s, but there’s plenty more for all ages at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum. The mineral gallery showcases beautiful geological specimens, while the diarama of the 230 million-year-old Permian Reef demonstrates how the oil was formed. Displays are creative, interactive, and often stunning.

4. Presidential Archives and Leadership Library

Located at the University of Texas Permian Basin campus, it exhibits presidential campaign memorabilia, books, photos, magazines, and other collectibles.
