2020 Jeep Renegade

Those looking for a capable SUV for their family’s adventures have likely found good reviews on the 2020 Jeep Compass and 2020 Jeep Renegade. Both are great models in the Jeep lineup that have a lot of similarities and a lot to offer. Here is a quick comparison of each to help you make the right decision.

Engine Power

The base trim levels of the 2020 Jeep Renegade and 2020 Jeep Compass offer similar features. One of the standout differences is the available engines. The Compass features a 180-horsepower engine while the Renegade offers your choice of the 180-horsepower engine or a 177-horsepower engine for which premium fuel is recommended. Higher trim levels on the Renegade only include the 177-horsepower option.

When it comes to towing capability, the Renegade and Compass have the same specs. When properly equipped, they can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Performance and Capability

As far as capability is concerned, both the Compass and Renegade perform admirably, especially with the right features and trim level selections. Most of the trims feature a front-wheel-drive or 4×4 configuration. The only exception to that on both models is the Trailhawk trim, which is only available with a 4×4 configuration. If you’re looking for more capability and off-road performance, you’ll want to opt for one of the 4×4 configurations. If you plan on trying to tackle some off-road trails, you’ll want the Trailhawk trim as it ensures it has Jeep’s Trail Rated badge and a slew of other helpful off-road features.

Another area of difference between the 2020 Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade is the available transmissions. The Jeep Renegade includes a nine-speed automatic transmission with an auto-manual feature across the board. The Compass, however, has a few different configurations. The Sport front-wheel-drive includes a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto-manual transmission. The 4×4 version of the Sport includes the six-speed manual or nine-speed auto-manual transmission. The other trims on the Compass feature a mix of a six-speed manual, nine-speed auto-manual, or six-speed auto-manual. If you are looking for a specific type of transmission, make sure you find out which Compass trims include it.

Exterior Look and Feel

The exterior look and feel of the Compass and Renegade is also a significant point of differentiation. The Compass has a softer, more traditional SUV look. It features a thin grille design with inlets for fog lamps below the headlights. It also features thin dark running boards to help keep salt away from the metal components of the body. The Renegade is much more recognizable as a Jeep thanks to the iconic grille design that features the tall rectangles and circular headlight shape. The running boards are a bit more substantial on the Renegade as well. Overall, the Compass has a sloping body, while the Renegade is a bit boxier.

There are a lot of similarities between the Renegade and Compass. If you want that classic Jeep look, you’re likely going to want the Renegade, but if you care more about transmission choices, the Compass is a better bet. If you like the look of both, the best thing you can do is stop in for a test drive or compare more features from our online inventory.
