Ram offers their lineup of trucks with a wide range of powertrains. Whether you need a truck for basic running around town and light-duty towing, or you need to haul heavy loads, you can find a Ram with an engine that will get the job done. No matter which engine you have, all Rams use an eight-speed automatic transmission, come standard with rear-wheel drive, and offer the four-wheel-drive system.2021 RAM 1500

The 3.6-liter V-6

The base engine for the 2021 Ram 1500 is the 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine. It uses Ram’s e-Torque mild-hybrid system and generates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. When the 1500 has this engine and the tow package, it can pull up to 7,730 pounds and carry up to 2,300 pounds in the bed.

The 3.0-liter Turbodiesel V-6

The 1500’s optional 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 is known as the EcoDiesel. It puts out 260 horsepower and delivers 480 pound-feet of torque. When equipped with this engine, the Ram 1500 can go from zero to 60 in just 8.1 seconds. This is the most fuel-efficient powertrain and will get up to 22 mpg in the city with rear-wheel drive. Opt for four-wheel drive, and this engine will still get you 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V-8 Engines

Another gas option for the 1500 is a 5.7-liter V-8 that Ram offers with or without the mild-hybrid system. It generates 395 horsepower and gets 410 pound-feet of torque. The Ram 2500 and the Ram 3500 have a 6.4-liter V-8 under their hood as a standard powertrain. The larger V-8 generates 410 horsepower and puts out 429 pound-feet of torque. When the 2500 has the gas V-8 under the hood, it can haul up to 4,380 pounds in the bed and tow up to 17,350 pounds.

Hauling heavy loads is what the 6.4-liter does best. It can handle up to 7,000 pounds when you have the crew cab, the 8-foot bed, and rear-wheel drive.

The Cummins Turbodiesel

When you need powerful towing capabilities, the Ram 3500 offers a 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel V-6. It generates 370 horsepower and an impressive 850 pound-feet of torque with the standard version, but if this isn’t enough, a high-output version will get you 400 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque. The high-output engine combined with a gooseneck hitch and dual rear wheels can tow up to 37,100 pounds.

The New Hellcat V-8

A new engine for the 2021 Ram 1500 is the 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine that you find under the hood of the Charger Hellcat. This engine comes only with the new TRX trim and delivers 702 horsepower. Acceleration in the Ram with this engine takes just 4.1 seconds to go from zero to 60.

The 2021 Ram has a powertrain for any job or adventure you want to tackle. Whether it’s towing for work, pulling a boat or trailer, or hauling your heavy loads, you’ll find an engine that has the horsepower and torque to get it done.
