Jackrabbit Jamboree

Jackrabbits have been an important part of Odessa’s history since its first jackrabbit roping contest in 1932. While they no longer have a roping contest, the people of Odessa have a longstanding affection for the jackrabbit. The Jackrabbit Jamboree is a public art project made up of thirty-seven 6-foot tall jackrabbits located all over the city of Odessa. Each jackrabbit is uniquely painted to represent the cultural history and significance of their location.

Jack Ben Rabbit on Eighth Avenue is the main jackrabbit of the Jamboree. Other fan-favorite bunnies include the Patchwork Rabbit and the Money Bunny. The Patchwork Rabbit looks like a colorful quilt with each patch representing a piece of Texan heritage. The Money Bunny is decorated with symbols from American currency.

Walking around Odessa looking for jackrabbits is a great way to learn about Texas heritage. Be sure to take selfies with each bunny! Use the handy Jackrabbit Jamboree online map to create a plan for visiting all 37 rabbits.
