2022 Jeep Cherokee near Odessa, TX

The Cherokee brand has long been a household name and has been applied to a variety of Jeeps since it was first introduced in 1974. The 2022 Jeep Cherokee doubles down on the model’s strengths, with more off-road options, better cabin air filters, and an expanded touchscreen.

Overview

The Cherokee underwent a major refit back in 2019, which gave it a better-looking exterior, excellent ride quality, and comfortable seats. The Cherokee is a great option for those with an adventurous streak, as it has proved itself to be an excellent off-roader, enjoying plenty of power from both its turbocharged I4 and V6 powerplants. It also has good space in the trunk and plenty of legroom for maximum comfort on long road trips.

Drivetrain and Economy

There are three engines available for the Cherokee, starting with a 180hp, 2.4-liter I4. A turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 is also available, but buyers after the most power should go for the 3.2-liter V6 which can produce up to 271 horsepower. All engines route their power through a standard nine-speed gearbox. 4WD and FWD versions are available for all variants of the Cherokee, but 4WD is standard on the brand-new Cherokee X off-road-focused model.

The Cherokee has excellent fuel economy, particularly in FWD guise, and the turbocharged engine option also gives it an excellent boost. It’s rated 23/31 mpg city/highway, dropping to a comfortable 19/27 mpg for models with the V6 and 4WD powertrains.

Safety Features

The Cherokee performed brilliantly in IIHS testing, receiving the highest possible rating of Good in their crash tests back in 2021. All 2022 models of the Jeep Cherokee come with a wide range of safety equipment and technologies as standard, so you can drive with peace of mind. These include blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance. In high-end models, you’ll also get adaptive cruise control, semi-autonomous parking, and automatic high beams.

Cabin Technology

The 7.0inch touchscreen that was standard on the previous year’s model of the Cherokee has now been replaced with a much larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. A wide variety of technology is also available, including rain-sensing automatic windscreen wipers, a hands-free powered tailgate, and a nine-speaker premium Alpine audio system. Heavy-duty engine cooling is also offered: perfect for desert excursions.

Off-Road Variants

The Cherokee now has two off-road variants available – the Cherokee Trailhawk and the new, and more budget-friendly Cherokee X. the Trailhawk features off-road suspension and a rear locker, while the X has dirt-friendly sill cladding and wheel flares. Both have the powerful V6 engine and 4WD standard.
