Odessa, TX is located in the heart of West Texas and is known for its cowboy culture, oil rigs, and as the setting of the film Friday Night Lights. However, there’s more to this little town than meets the eye, including a thriving cafe culture with a number of amazing independent coffee shops that you absolutely must try while you’re in town. We’ve listed six of our favorites here to get you started.
1. The Human Bean
The Human Bean is a favorite among Odessa locals. This coffee shop has lots of options for food and bakery items, so you won’t have a hard time finding something you like. We recommend trying one of their refreshing iced drinks to fend off the Texas heat, you’ll love the fresh strong taste of the coffee. Each order also comes with a free chocolate-covered coffee bean!
2. Chelsea Tea’s Coffee Shop
If you’re looking for a change from your regular morning coffee, check out Chelsea’s and try one of their delicious teas, either hot or iced. They have an impressive 50 flavors to offer, so no matter what your tastes are you’re sure to find something you like here. The prices here are reasonable and the service is always great!
3. CPL Ray’s Coffee
CPL Ray’s claim to fame is its consistently high-quality coffee. The iced drinks are very popular and we especially recommend the frozen chai. There are also lots of pastries available as well as delicious breakfast and lunch options. A drive-through is a great option if you’re just passing through town and need a great cup of coffee to get your day started.
4. Coffee 903
Coffee 903 is the place to go for great coffee at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, and the staff is always friendly, so this is a great spot to sit and relax for a little while. We highly recommend any of their chai drinks, which are especially delicious. It is located inside of a church on Country Road, enter the double doors and go to the right to enter the coffee shop.
5. HTeaO
Another great option for tea in Odessa is HTeaO, where you can try any of the shop’s many varieties of tea before choosing one you like. The service and atmosphere here are great, and the tea is always delicious.
6. Higher Grounds
Odessa’s neighboring town of Midland is home to some amazing coffee houses as well, such as Higher Grounds, a haven for coffee, art, and music in the community. Come by in the morning for an amazing latte to start your day, or stop by in the evening to check out a free music performance. The cafe is covered in beautiful art and the staff is always helpful and friendly, which makes every visit to this coffee shop an enjoyable experience.
